What is an inflatable dog bed?
Inflatable dog beds are similar to an air
mattress. The dog bed quickly and easily inflates and deflates for
storage or travel. Inflatable dog begs are usually made of
puncture-resistant, heavy-duty poly-vinyl chloride (PVC) with a
fabric cover. Most beds are designed for smaller dogs, although
there are some inflatable beds that can hold dogs up to 90 lbs. Most
inflatable dog beds are easy to wash, the PVC can be easily wiped
down and the outer fabric cover can be thrown in the washer.
Inflatable dog beds may be a good choice for older dogs with
incontinence as the PVC is waterproof.
Prices for inflatable dog beds can vary depending on the quality and
durability of the PVC and the outer fabric. Try to buy the thickest
PVC you can afford. The outer cover should be durable as well,
you’ll want to be able to wash it without it warping or thinning. Be
sure to ask if you can purchase replacements covers from the
manufacturer or if the beds can be patched or repaired. As always,
you get what you pay for. It may make more sense to you to buy an
inexpensive inflatable bed and replace it often or invest in an
expensive bed that will last longer.
Inflatable dog beds may not be suitable for extremely hot or cold
weather. The air inside the bed may remain cool during cold weather,
making it difficult for the dog to maintain his body heat. In the
summer, the PVC may feel a little sticky as it is not breathable.
Making sure you have a well maintained fabric cover is important.
Inflatable dog beds may not be suitable for puppies and dogs that
are still teething or who enjoy scratching and “raking” their bed
before they settle down. Be sure to clip your dog’s nails regularly
when using the inflatable dog bed. A well maintained inflatable dog
bed can last for years and is a great option for dogs that travel a
lot or live in small houses or apartments.
