Not sure what dog bed is right for your best friend?

What are the benefits of a buckwheat filled dog bed?

Buckwheat filled dog beds are special pillow type dog beds that are filled with buckwheat hulls instead of foam or poly fill. Some dogs may find tradition foam or poly fill beds to be too soft or too warm. Many dogs prefer to sleep on harder, more supportive surfaces. Buckwheat hulls do not collapse under the dog’s weight like foam, instead the bed shifts, much like a bean bag and conforms to the dogs shape. Buckwheat hulls allow for the circulation of air and do not retain heat, making them much cooler. Many manufacturers also claim that buckwheat hulls do not absorb odors or moisture.

Some dogs with skin allergies may benefit from buckwheat filled dog beds as they may be cooler and may help dogs with allergies to foam, feathers or poly fill. Be careful, however, some dogs and humans may have allergies to buckwheat and in which case the allergies symptoms will persist or become worse.

Buckwheat pillows cannot be washed, so be sure that if you purchase a buckwheat filled dog bed, that it includes a removable and washable cover. Also consider waiting until your puppy has past through his teething and chewing phase before purchasing a buckwheat filled bed as you may come home and find buckwheat everywhere!
