What are bolster dog beds?

Bolster dog beds are designed to be super comfortable beds for all size dogs, especially extra-large dogs. Bolster beds are any dog bed with a pillow or mat base with a large roll pillow or backing that surrounds part of the bed. The result is a foam or poly-filled bed with soft sides to provide extra support for a dog’s head or back. Unlike a nesting or donut bed, a bolster bed usually is shaped like a couch, with the bolster or roll pillow only supporting two or three sides. Bolster beds are great for medium to extra-large dogs that like a roomy bed for stretching out but need a little more neck support or insulation for warmth. Because the bolster beds have side pillows, they can help protect dogs from drafts. The dog can snuggle up against the bolster pillows for extra warmth but have enough room to stretch out on warm nights. Bolster dog beds are also great if you have more than one dog and they like to share beds.

Bolster dog beds come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. Some beds are square or rectangular with three bolstered sides, or they come in round or oblong shapes with half to two-thirds of the bed surrounded by bolster pillows. Bolster beds come in many fabrics as well. Some beds are covered in fabric, fleece, ultra-suede and even faux leather. Because bolster beds are usually made from foam or poly-fill, be sure that what ever fabric option you choose is removable and machine washable. Bolster dog beds are not recommended for outdoor use or for dogs with incontinence problems.

Bolster dog beds are usually inexpensive as most are not built around inner framework. Larger models for extra-large dogs and luxury fabrics will cost more and expect to pay more in shipping extra-large beds as well.
